Second Vaujany International Chess Festival
July 14-22, 2011

Last update of this page march 27th, 2011

JANUARY 9th, 2011: CONGRATULATIONS TO GMI DEEP SENGUPTA, WINNER OF VAUJANY 2010, AND MI ARGHYADIP DAS, WHO WON EX-AEQUO THE PRESTIGIOUS HASTINGS 2010/2011 MASTER TOURNAMMENT WITH 7/9 .

After the success of its first edition, wich gathered 126 players in the wonderful mountain resort of Vaujany, we hope that even more players will join us for the second edition of the Vaujany chess festival, which will occur at the same place from july 14th, 2011 to july 22nd, 2011.

As previously, our  festival will offer 3 tournaments:
  • The Principal, for strong players with an Elo rating above 1850.
  • The "Accession", for players with an Elo rating between 1450 and 1900. (Choice between Principal and Accession for ratings between 1850 and 1900)
  • The  "Petit’Zélos" (small Elos), for players with an Elo rating below 1500.  (Choice between Accession and Peti'Zelos for ratings between 1450 and 1500)
The tournaments will occur in the wonderful  "Espace Loisirs" room, which can accomodate very easily up to  250 players. So don't hesitate to come, there will be room for everybody!.

The registration rights remain unchanged:
Principal 56 € for seniors and 28 € for youngsters
Accession 48 € and 24 €
Petit’Zélos 30 € and 15 €

The arbiters will be Jean-Sébastien TROCHET and Claire PERNOUD,  already known and appreciated by all those who participated in the previous years.

The prize fund of this second Festival will stay at a high standard with about 8000 € which will be distributed. The winner of the Principal tournament will get 1200 € and as usual, 75% of the registration rights will be redistributed, with prices per class of Elo range in each tournament, made possible by the strong support of Vaujany city.

In order to minimize zeitnots, the time control should remain  1h40 / 40 moves + 50 min / 20 moves + 10 min, with 30 seconds increment per move, but this is still under discussion.

A large range of accomodations, very reasonably priced, is available in Vaujany, with either hotels, furnished appartments or family run rentals. We invite you to visit The Vaujany tourist office web site for more informations. They can also be called at  (+33) 4 76 807 237. We recommend particularly Hotels Les Cimes and Le Rissiou, which offer to the chess players half board accomodation for only 48€/ night, with excellent cooking. (or alternatively 35€/ night breakfeast included without half board)

Vaujany is easily accessible from Grenoble by the road. More information on how to come is available in the practical information section
